A members' area for your network, association or training

A members' area gives your website a private section where members log in, share knowledge and talk to each other. I build it to fit, and I tell you honestly up front what's involved, such as privacy and moderation.

What you get

  • A personal account for each member, logging in on your own website
  • Roles and permissions, for example member, editor and administrator
  • Private pages and documents, for members only
  • Discussions and comments
  • Moderation: approve posts by new members first, hide posts and block accounts
  • Member management: approve, add or remove members
  • Spam protection on sign-up

Not included

  • The moderating itself. Reviewing posts and answering members' questions is done by you or your team.
  • Filling and growing your community, such as recruiting members.
  • Paid memberships or collecting fees. That is possible, as a separate item in the quote.
  • Running costs of external services, if there are any. They are in the quote up front.
  • Exceptional use, such as very many members or large videos. If that leads to higher costs, I'll discuss it with you first.

Exactly what is and is not included is set out in the terms.

Who it's for

Networks and communities

You bring people together around a profession or theme and want your own place to share knowledge.

Associations and foundations

You want news, documents and discussions to be available to members only.

Trainers and course providers

You give participants a place for materials, questions and contact with each other, also after the training.

What is a members' area?

A members' area is a part of your website that is only open to people with an account. Visitors see your normal site. Members log in and also see what is meant for them: news, documents and a place to talk to each other.

Roles decide who can do what. A member reads and comments, an editor posts news and an administrator approves members. The difference with a social media group: everything is on your own site and you set the rules.

What a members' area involves

Logging in. Who can become a member? Anyone, only people you approve, or only people with an invitation? That decides how sign-up works.

Privacy. A members' area stores personal data, such as names, email addresses and posts. The GDPR, the European privacy law, applies. You are responsible for that data and I process it on your behalf, under my data processing agreement. I only ask for what's needed, and a member can have their account deleted.

Moderation. Wherever people talk to each other, things sometimes go wrong: spam, a heated discussion or a post that doesn't belong. That's why I build in moderation, so you can step in.

Moderation is work, and that work is yours

I build the tools, you use them. A community needs someone who welcomes new members, reviews posts and steps in when needed. Set aside a fixed moment every week, especially at the start. Agree on house rules too, and I'll put them where every member can see them.

Honest advice: if a small group mainly needs to coordinate now and then, a WhatsApp group may be enough. A members' area of your own pays off when you want to keep knowledge, set your own rules, or when your members expect more than a chat.

Price: always a quote to fit

A members' area costs from €995, excl. VAT. I always make a quote to fit. The price depends on the number of roles, the features you want, the number of languages and any links with other systems.

A members' area works with every package, and you can have it built straight away or add it later. If you also want to post news and articles yourself, Business Plus is a good match. See all prices, or read how a project runs on how it works.

    Live

The members' area opens. I show you how to approve members and moderate.

Frequently asked questions

What does a members' area cost?

From €995, excl. VAT. You always get a quote to fit, because the price depends on roles, features, languages and links with other systems.

Who moderates the discussions?

You or someone on your team. I build in moderation so you can approve, hide or remove posts. I don't do the moderating myself.

What about privacy and the GDPR?

You are responsible for your members' data, and I process it on your behalf under my data processing agreement. In your privacy statement you tell members what you do with their data.

Can anyone just sign up?

That's your choice: open sign-up, sign-up with your approval, or invitation only.

Can I add a members' area later?

Yes. It works with every package and you can also add it once your site is live.
